Opt-Out Program

If you have other employer-sponsored group health insurance, you may have the option to opt out of NYSHIP coverage through the Opt-Out Program. By doing this, you’ll get an annual incentive payment.

The Opt-Out Program allows active employees who have other employer-sponsored group health insurance to opt out of NYSHIP health coverage for an incentive payment.

Opting out of coverage through this program allows you to remain a NYSHIP enrollee for the purposes of establishing coverage in retirement.

The program applies to health coverage only. Enrollment does not impact eligibility for dental or vision coverage.
